PRACTICE OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS

A study conducted found that 77% of teachers had themselves been punished in childhood. Teachers also hit children because they were depressed and tensed about their family problems.moreover 70.9% teachers felt that the children must be punished physically to make them disciplined.

As a result of this teachers slap, shout, shake and even pinch students. There are teachers who take sticks for issues like- lying, stealing, showing tantrums e.t.c. They also uses a stick if a child gets poor marks in exams.

To get rid of this there must be some seminar regarding this cruel type of punishment towards the students. The principal must organize a meeting of the teachers so that they can be checked upon by him by the progress of the concerned class. There must be laws to keep check on teachers not giving corporal punishment to students. Media should spread awareness that physical punishment is not the way to correct a child. it only results in school-phobia and low confidence level.
